This year, Pantone celebrates their 50th anniversary, and they made a long infographic to look back on those 50 years. In those 50 years, Pantone became an icon in the print and design industries and all kinds of accessories have been made under their brand name. At the turn of the last century, Pantone took advantage of their status in industry and began naming a color of the year, and releasing limited edition items in those colors. You can see some of these and more on our Pantone board.
The usually question-heavy Graphic Design USA (GDUSA) annual print survey was surprisingly light this year. Gordon Kaye covers the survey in GDUSA’s May/June edition, with short descriptions of the results after each question, and his own musings thrown in. If you’re a designer, printer, or any way involved with print – if you still buy books, magazines, and anything in a package, you are! – this survey is definitely worth the read. We’ll link to each question and throw their infographics up here to make it even more convenient. Continue reading
Any Brand Identity work that you are involved in include not only Logos and Websites, but can and should be expanded to printed products, such as business cards, letterheads, and other collateral. We know it can be difficult to manage print work and budgets on top of the designing and invoicing you are already doing. We don’t want your print projects to be a drag, we want them to be a profitable and easy extension of the work you love to do. Continue reading

Often companies are reluctant to acknowledge counterfeit product problems, hoping they’ll go away. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work. Counterfeiters tend to take the path of least resistance, so making your labeling a bit harder to fake than someone else’s often is the first step in recovery. This may not even add cost to current practices, but learning how is as simple as seeking out an expert.
Most security printers share information (discreetly)…after confirming “your” authenticity. Whatever printing processes you already use on labeling, tagging, packaging and other documents (Certificates, coupons, etc.), may be able to simultaneously apply security features. Continue reading

One Kings Lane, the online fine home goods store, decided to thank their customers by sending them a set of eight engraved notes and envelopes after they placed their first order. According to Elizabeth Dobbin, OKL purchasing manager, the primary objective of this campaign was to increase the customer’s rate of placing their 2nd purchase. Their secondary objective was to reinforce the One Kings Lane brand as a high-end online retailer. This campaign successfully met both their goals.
One Kings Lane sent the gift cards to a random sample of first time buyers and held back the gift from another sample set of the same size. They found that there was a 25% increase in 2nd orders placed from the group that received the free gift, thus generating significant revenue beyond the cost of the program. The ROI was enough to increase the number of gift sets OKL ordered from BurdgeCooper the next year by 15%. Continue reading
